Speech competition

We have completed our class speech competition and they children made it extremely difficult for me to judge the finalists. Our senior school finals are Thursday 10.30am in the hall.

The Year 5 finalists are:

1st - Sam
2nd - Issy
3rd - Piper B

They were judged on the content of their speech, how the speech was written (opening sentence, key points with examples, conclusion), how they presented their speech, were they confident and audience interest.

Our Year 6 finalists are:

1st - Safiya
2nd - Ella
3rd = George and Logan

We had the finals on Thursday and all the finalists were amazing. Well done to everyone. We had 2 placings with Ella coming 2nd in the Yr 6 category and Issy getting 3rd out of the Yr 5's.

Well done to Julius and Heathcliff who gained 1st places in their categories.

Yes we are very excited in Room 26 as Halloween approaches. Yes we also realise this isn't really a New Zealand 'thing' to celebrate but we just like dressing up!

Sailor Extraordinaire

We may have just found the next future Dean Baker!

Logan entered the Canterbury age group sailing regatta over the weekend.  He won the 10-11yr olds division and came 3rd overall in the optimist class.  This is his first time he has entered and only the 2nd time he's raced sinced learning to sail last summer. Well done Logan!

Strike Percussion

We were so lucky to have the group "Strike Percussion" come to school to share parts of their show. They had just finished performing at the Christchurch Arts Festival. It was loud and amazing! They even used flame to make a beat and rhythm!

Here is a taste of what we were treated to.

Crazy weather last night

WINDY! Hope everyone managed to get some sleep last night. My husbands BBQ ended up crashing into his work truck which made him a little grumpy. Here's a photo from Triny's place.

CBD trip

Today the senior school went on a trip into the Christchurch CBD. First we hopped in the bus and went to the museum to meet up in our groups. Then we got the maps and scavenger hunt and went exploring the CBD. We went to the city council building where Zach's dad works. There were stepping stones going up to the building and most people climbed them for fun. We also went to the Square and found out about the first four ships that sailed  into Lyttelton. We also saw the broken cathedral and read about the new things that are coming to the Christchurch Square. We also went into the new cathedral made out of cardboard (one of the coolest parts of the day). We were all tired and hungry when we came back to school.  Thanks for the parents who came!
