Holidays!

Hope you are all enjoying the holidays! Finally we have had some sunshine!

Start thinking about next term, in particular camp! What you need to bring? Think about what baking you are going to help Mum or Dad make to bring along.

Also, now the weather is heating up so is the sun - so remember your hats and sunscreen when you're going outside for long periods of time.

Anyway, carry on enjoying your break!

News - Week 7

Charlie - did the 20 hour famine. Lucas and Charlie did it together. They played lots of playstation to take their minds of not eating. They went down to school and saw Indi and Brooke. Charlie thought he saw Conor skating, but he wasn't sure if it was or wasn't.

Paige - her Aunty came and looked after her. They made friendship bracelets but for your hair.

Olivia - on Sunday she went sailing with Ruby. She was going to invite Nellie too but she was doing the famine. They won a prize sailing. Next weekend Olivia is going to Picton.

Ruby - on Saturday she went shopping. For tea they went to a restaurant to celebrate her Uncle's birthday. We sat at a large table that had a hot plate in the middle. The chef cooked their food in front of them. He threw up egg and they had to catch it in their mouths.

George - on Friday George went to the Smiggle shop and bought 6 rubbers - a pig, skull and cross bones, a yukky hippo that smells of dishwashing liquid and a cat.

Our City Uncovered Trip

In week 3 our class visited the Canterbury Provincial Buildings.  We had a look around the building and got to go into the room where the council used to sit and make decisions.

In small groups, we were given maps and a tape recorder and we had to find 6 different locations in the CBD.  Some of the things we looked at were:
 - Regent Street where the tram goes.  This area is still in its original condition with a Spanish theme.
- Victoria Square - we looked at the statues of Queen Victoria and Captain James Cook.  We also found a floral clock and the oldest bridge in Christchurch.
- Cathedral Square - we found Christchurch's coat of arms.
- Rhododendron Island - in the Avon River is a small island.  This is where the original 2 boys schools used to play at lunchtimes.  The boys used to play fight over who 'ruled' the island.

The second part of the trip, we had to plan a city for the future.  We learnt about designing a map using keys to create our new city.  We had to include 5 modes of transport, basic necessities such as power, water, shelter and food and some fun things for our citizens.

Here are some photos from the day.

Our New Awesome Classroom

Term 2 Begins!

We came into school. We came into our new classroom.  The first thing we think is 'WOW!'
Everything is shiny and smells new.  It really is a 5 star classroom.  We have a projector on the ceiling which we use everyday.  We have a cool lime green wall by the whiteboard.  Our whiteboard slides across and we have hidden shelves behind it.  We are lucky to get new desks and chairs.  We have a shared art space with Room 27, separated with sliding doors.  There are lots of cupboards and even a room to hide Miss Woods' mess!

Have a look at the photos that Conor and Kassie took of our new block!

TRY-ATHLON

On Tuesday 16 March we competed in our school TRY-athlon.  The weather was beautiful and we had a fantastic time.

WHAT WE DID
The Year 5 boys started first. We all had to sprint up the starting chute to get a good spot to go through the gate by the Big A playground.  We then ran around the roads and back in the school grounds by the junior classrooms to where our bikes were in the racks.

Mrs Bateman and Mrs Warren helped us find our bikes and put on our helmets.  We ran with our bikes out the main gates and into the teachers car park where we then were allowed to get on our bikes.  We rode around English Park, up a wee hill and back onto the courts.

Miss Wilson was waiting for us at the bike transition to take our shoes, socks, t-shirts and shorts so we could race to the pool.

Mr Williams shouted out words of encouragement while we swam 2 lengths of the pool.
Finally we sprinted up the finish chute to cheers and clapping from our parents and friends.

RESULTS
Room 7 Year 5 Boys
1st - Charlie
2nd - Angus
