Welcome to Term 3

This year has gone super fast!

What's happening this term?
Topic - Antarctica & NZ's role in protecting it's unique environment
Maths - interchange continues - most classes are learning about multiplication and division
Reading - for the first 3 weeks we are looking at mammals and reading about a wide range of them.  The children will then be looking at Mammals of Antarctica as a small inquiry of their own.
Writing - we have just finished writing about our holidays.  Next we are looking at how to write reports.  We will also be writing Antarctic adventures!
Spelling -  the children have had their first week with their new words. Hopefully they are learning these at home.
PE/Sport - senior sport will happen on Friday's.  Those not involved in Hagley sports will work on skills and mini games - hockey, netball/basketball, soccer and rugby.  We will also be doing this in our class PE time.
Library - our library time is Wednesday 1.30-2pm.
Assemblies - every 2nd Friday at 10.15am over at English Park.  This may change due to the facilities we are using.

It's going to be a great term!

MUSIC WITH MARY

On Thursday's we have been lucky to have Mary (Cathal's Mum) come and take us for some music.

We have learnt how different instruments can be played and that we sound pretty awesome jamming together!  We used a metronome to help stay in time.

Here are some photos and a video clip of one of our sessions.

Check out our video of our jam session with Mary! We rock!

Poetry competition

We had our class competition yesterday morning. The children had to learn a poem off by heart. They needed to present it using expression, appropriate volume and some actions.

The winners of our class competition were:

RUBY ANGUS OLIVIA

Congratulations! They will be competing against the other Yr 5's today at English Park. Good luck!
